Earth could be facing challenges, however optimism persists. A new award from the interdisciplinary festival the Starmus festival will inspire individuals to take action.

The medal will be given in memory of the esteemed scientist and conservationist who passed away recently. It seeks to acknowledge those who advocate for life on Earth.

The Medal's Framework

The inaugural winners are expected to be announced at the Starmus VIII festival in the Canary Islands, which will run from October 17th to 22nd the coming year.

According to statements that Goodall, a former member of the festival's board, had endorsed the award’s creation. “The concept behind this medal, and Starmus being entrusted to oversee it, originated with Jane,” a statement said. “She said she would like this to happen. This is likely because of the unique bond she had with us.”

“The Starmus Jane Goodall Earth medal will acknowledge sustainable programmes carried out to build an environment a better place for people, animals and the environment and offer support for the continuation such efforts,” said a family member.

A co-founder of Starmus indicated that the medal – unveiled at a scientific institution – will likely encompass various fields.

“It’s going to be very much similar to the Stephen Hawking medal for science communication established a decade past,” he explained. Goodall was a recipient of that very medal.
